NEW CLASSES

NEW ELECTIVE CLASSES - Open to anyone who has taken at least 3 levels at any improv school

An Improv education is a zigzagging march of successes and failures; but it doesn’t need to be a slog through chaos and the dark where we scrap individuality and our sense of humor to survive and come out the other end.

Instructors: Tom Kelley & Anne Veal
Mondays November 14th - December 19th, 7-10

Dive into an acting class focused on the skills most useful for improv: being present in the moment, emotional truthfulness, character development and psychology, vulnerability, and connecting with your partner onstage. Students will tackle monologues and scripted scenes, finally coming back to earnest, grounded, and emotionally vulnerable improvised scenes.

This class is begin-termediate: class will start with the fundamentals and quickly develop into an intermediate class keeping pace with the students' progression. No formalized acting training is required, but individualized feedback will ensure that even those with training will be spurred to growth.

Instructor: Chris Roberti
Sundays December 4th - 18th, 11am-2pm

This class is focused on breaking out of our improv ruts, saying yes to ourselves, our scene, and our partners. This three week workshop is devised to create a culture of yes, balancing agreement with imagination, placing the same value on acceptance as we would creativity. Yes takes us further faster and gives our scenes thrust and lift and life.

Improv to Sketch
Instructors: Christian Capozzoli & Andrew Coalson
Mondays November 28th - January 30th, 7-10
(No class December 26th or January 2nd)

The Reckless approach to sketch uses improv to create monstrously funny material that is then packaged into a dynamic/organic piece that is as refreshing and fun as it is theatrical. Create, heighten, refine, tweak, massage, braid, weave, sculpt your ideas into a slick piece of theatre.

The first half of the class will be dedicated to generating material with the holiday break used to memorize our roles, and the last few weeks will be dedicated to staging and refining our pieces.

Announcing Auditions for

A Reckless Christmas Carol

Sunday, October 30th 8:30-11pm

A Reckless Christmas Carol
December 16th, 17th & 18th @ 7:30pm

This production will be partially scripted and partially improvised - for each of the 3 performances, a different Scrooge will perform with the cast, having never read the script.

Auditions are open to anyone who has been a student within the last 3 months, anyone enrolled in an upcoming class, or anyone who has completed Masterclass.

To claim an audition spot, please sign up here. If you are completely unavailable during this time or if your available time slot has filled, please email anne@recklesstheatre.com and we will - with no guarantees - try to find another time to see you.

There will be rehearsals according to availability after Thanksgiving. Primarily these will focus on staging specific staging elements and magic, with many small scenes left to be played with in the moment.

For the audition, please prepare:

A brief piece as the character(s) you would like to audition for, utilizing any of Dickens' original text that you'd like. Be prepared to improvise in character. We are open to any character interpretations you want to show us, traditional or otherwise.

(Optional) 30 sec of any Christmas carol to sing

(Optional) Perform any instrument that you play.

Narrators: 2-3 people will be cast as Narrators who will guide the story with text while also serving as the safety valve if the piece deviates too far from the script. We would like to see pairs and trios audition together for these parts. Please bring character choices for who they are and how they are integrated in the story. For example, you could be a group of carolers or a parent & child reading Dickens' book together. You should be prepared to improvise in character together.

Suggested Characters:
Narrators (2-3)
Bob Cratchitt
Marley
Ghost of Christmas Past
Mr. & Mrs. Fezziwig (preferred audition together)
Young Ebeneezer
Belle
Ghost of Christmas Present
Mrs. Cratchitt
